Love to learn
I have learnt more about myself as a student whilst studying web design than I did over my three year university course. The most important thing I have learnt is loving to learn...
Whilst at uni I was comfortably fed information on a silver spoon by my knowledgable lecturers. For these three years, with such interesting people available to teach me, I just didn’t care for learning the way I do now.
It’s all very well and good having teachers advising you on what books to read, but I must say, being handed a reading list of 20 plus books is not only a little overwhelming, but also very unsatisfying.
Don’t get me wrong, I learnt to be a disciplined student at uni. I read my books and got my essays in on time. However, now that I am self-taught, I myself have to find that golden bit of reading that will unlock another skill or piece of knowledge. I learn what interests and drives me, not what’s on a syllabus. Im also learning from people that are at the top of their game, doing things right now that I love and want to learn, not wasting my time analysing in 3000 words what people did 20 years ago.
Loving learning has taken something that originally started out as a possible career path and turned it into a hobby.
